Why the Off-Season is Really the Best Time to Plan your SPI Vacation

If you just so happen to be combing the web for South Padre Island attractions, you’re in the right place.

There are tons of incredible things to do in South Padre Island when you book your South Padre Island vacation rental no matter what season you’re visiting in. However, there is one season in particular when we would definitely recommend that you visit: the off-season! Here’s why.

What is the ‘Off-Season’?

First things first: South Padre Island is NEVER OFF! The term off-season refers to a period of time where activities are reduced; that is not the case here. We refer to the fall and winter seasons as our off=season, because that is when we have less tourism traffic. South Padre Island’s off-season has nothing to do with a decrease in shops, activities, or fun. In fact, we encourage people to come visit during our off-season for many reasons! Why is the Fall the Best Time to Visit SPI?

South Padre Island  Weather

This one, of course, is a no–brainer. In fact, the weather is, as some say, “just right” at this time. It could not be better. In the summertime, the weather here tends to be incredibly hot. But in the fall, you’ll experience cooler temperatures as well as a lower chance of precipitation on any given day, and less humidity. You can still get outside and enjoy yourself, but you won’t feel like you’re melting!

Reduced Crowds

In addition to that last benefit, you’ll also have fewer crowds to contend with. Who doesn’t want to have shorter wait times, more space, and more stuff to do, all to yourself? And don’t even worry about people waiting in line for hours and getting groggy and upset. Fewer crowds make it easier to walk into local South Padre Island restaurants without experiencing extended wait times!

More Affordable Rates

It’s off-season, after all, which means you’ll always get the best rate. As a travel tip, off-season typically correlates to lower booking prices! It’s all about strategy in the vacation rental industry, and property managers know that during the off-season, cheaper prices typically equate to more bookings.

Things to do in South Padre Island

Even if it’s too cold to actually swim at the beach, there are plenty of other things to do here with your family in the off-season!

Beach Horseback Riding

Nothing could be more romantic than riding horseback next to your partner and later having a picnic day. You deserve it, after all! So, saddle up, put on your best cowboy hat and boots, and get ready for a day that’s unmatched by any other! Fun is waiting here, especially if you have always wanted to ride your first horse.

Sea Turtle, Inc.

For the animal lover, Sea Turtle, Inc. is the perfect place. You can enjoy watching them swim. Cutest things ever! These beauties are endangered, so touching them is not allowed, but one of the experts at Sea Turtle Inc. would be happy to tell you more about each turtle’s personal story!

Fishing

Are you in need of some peace and quiet and wish to make your needs count on your trip? Well, to make the most of your journey, of course, do try and squeeze in a nice, little relaxing activity like fishing. There is plenty to fish in this whole area, so have some fun as you let yourself unwind.

Golf

There is ample green for golfing… did you bring your clubs? If not, that is okay — there is some mini-golf here, too, that you can always jump into at any time. Ask the front desk to loan you the balls and putts and you should be on your way to having some fun with your buddies… go for that hole-in-one!

Sandcastle Trail

If you think you have ever seen a big sandcastle, then think again! The ones you find on Sandcastle Trail are sure to break that record. It is, in fact, a composition of larger-than-life types of sandcastles built together in unison, just for your viewing pleasure. There are approximately 30 total sculptures to feast your eyes on, and yes, they are each made entirely of sand.
