While it might be too chilly to actually get in the water, watching the Lighted Boat Parade is a great way to still take advantage of the stunning shores.
Throughout the route, you’ll find designated viewing areas where you can get an amazing perspective on all the boats as they float along the bay. Best of all, this event is completely free to the public, perfect if you’re traveling on a budget! Holiday Sandcastle Village
South Padre Island is particularly known for its incredible sands, which are not only comfortable to lounge around on but can also make some of the most beautiful sand sculptures you’ve ever seen. While you’re in town, you simply can’t miss a visit to the Holiday Sandcastle Village! The village is constantly changing to bring in new sculptures, and some of the most talented local artists bring their unique vision to this evolving village.
While the Sandcastle Village is up all year long, it’s easily one of the best things to do in South Padre Island during the Christmas season. Throughout the year, you’ll often find sculptures dedicated to other seasons, but during the winter holidays, there are more sandcastles than any other time of year. You really never know what you’re going to find! You might see some reindeer, a Christmas tree made out of sand, or maybe even Santa Claus himself!
The Holiday Sandcastle Village is located on West Ling Street and is open every day from 12 noon until 9 p.m.
Tree Lighting Ceremony and Annual Christmas Parade
We’ve already talked a bit about how important it is to have a parade during the holiday season. If you want something a bit more traditional than the Lighted Boat Parade we mentioned earlier, don’t worry! In 2021, South Padre Island will be holding its 32nd Annual Christmas Parade. Bring your family out to enjoy the breathtaking floats as they head down the center of town, and enjoy the holiday spirit without freezing to death!
In addition to the South Padre Island Christmas parade itself, be sure to stick around and participate in the tree lighting ceremony. It’s the best way to kick off the holiday season! Once you’ve seen the breathtaking lights on the tree, it will truly feel like Christmas. Plus, you’ll be right in the middle of town, so you can easily get to the next attraction on your itinerary.
The 32nd Annual SPI Christmas Parade will take place on December 3, 2021, starting at 6 p.m. The parade will begin at Mars Lane, travel south on Padre Boulevard, and end at Kingfish Street.
Breakfast with Santa
Sure, your kids might enjoy getting to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. But honestly, you can do that just about anywhere. One way to really make your holiday season special is by having breakfast with Jolly Old Saint Nick himself! In years past, the Beach Park at South Padre Island has hosted a Breakfast with Santa celebration, perfect for starting your day off right and getting to meet Santa Claus in person.
Guests of all ages are sure to enjoy not only meeting Santa Claus but also indulging in some delicious breakfast food. The Beach Park at Isla Blanca is conveniently located near the center of the island, so after you get done with your breakfast, you can easily head on to the beach or to any of the other destinations in the area.
