One of the best parts of vacationing at South Padre Island is the variety of local shops and cuisine for guests to choose from. Breaking away from my Starbucks one morning, I came across a lovely locally-owned coffee shop called Cafe Karma.
Cafe Karma, located at 5200 Padre Blvd, is right in the heart of the island. The indoor/outdoor seating makes it a great place to work, study, or chat with friends. The cozy couch and seating area are perfect for relaxing while listening to one of the cafe’s pop-up musicians. There was a gentleman playing guitar when I went in, and it was the perfect addition to the atmosphere. The eclectic decor creates the ideal laid-back coffee house vibe. They have beautifully painted floors, chalkboard menus, and funky coffee sack curtains.
I couldn’t help but notice the array of pastries and desserts in the glass display case when I went in. I wanted a quick breakfast, so I ordered a crisp, cool, iced coffee black and couldn’t resist the sour cream donut. Other breakfast fare includes options like breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and bagels. I enjoyed Cafe Karma so much that I even went in for lunch that day. I was craving a panini, and to my surprise, they have a choice of different types of paninis with a bag of chips. It hit the spot perfectly. Of course, a coffee house wouldn’t be a coffee house without some specialty drinks. One that I hope to try soon is the “Karmaccino”. It combines your favorite ice cream flavors with two shots of espresso in a creamy blend of goodness.
Speaking of ice cream, Cafe Karma touts 16 delicious flavors of Blue Bell ice cream. It’s the perfect ice-cold treat after a day on the beach. Got a sweet tooth? Right next door is the Karma Candy Corner with candy by the pound, vintage candy, and great gifts.
